Redirecting a domain

Redirecting a domain that you already own to your Qufoto website is as simple as changing some settings on your domain. These settings are called nameservers, and they control where your domain points.

Updating the nameservers associated with your domain can be done either through a control panel or through the customer service of the registrar that currently hosts your domain. If you do use a control panel to maintain your domain or current website, simply log in and find the option to modify the nameservers. If you're using a customer service, contact them. In either case, update your nameservers to use the following values:

  • ns1.qufoto.com
  • ns2.qufoto.com

Once the nameservers are changed for your domain, the domain should be redirected to your Qufoto website within 24 hours. (It takes a little time for the change to propagate through the internet.)

When you redirect your domain, if you have any email addresses based on it, they may get funky. Please read our help document on email addresses.

Transferring a domain

If you have a Qufoto website and you have not taken advantage of the free domain option with your subscription, and you already own a domain that you would like us to pay for, you can have us do that by transferring the domain to us. But please note: transferring a domain to us is transferring ownership of the domain to us. Qufoto will technically become the owner of your domain. You will no longer own your domain. If this does not sound appealing to you, please see the redirect option above.

That said, if you do transfer your domain to Qufoto, we will help you transfer it back to another domain registrar at any time, whether you decide to cancel your photography website or simply want to retain ownership of it.

To transfer your domain to Qufoto you must do the following four steps:

  1. Update the administrative contact email address on file for your domain to
  2. Wait 2 days (This is necessary for your DNS changes to propagate)
  3. Unlock the domain
  4. Send us the authorization code for the domain

Once these steps are complete, we can begin the transfer process for your domain. A typical domain transfer can take anywhere from a few days to a week to complete. Once it's finished, we'll attach the domain to your Qufoto website by redirecting it (like above) ourselves if your domain has not already been redirected.

When we redirect your domain, if you have any email addresses based on it, they may get funky. Please read our help document on email addresses.
